COVID-19 vaccination: Booster for teenagers from the age of 12 and reduction of the time before the booster to 3 months

Because of the current epidemic wave and the threat of the omicron variant, the Government Council decided on 7 January 2022 to reduce the interval for the booster shot to 3 months after a two-dose vaccination (Moderna, BioNTech/Pfizer) and a "Mix & Match" vaccination (AstraZeneca in the 1st dose and ARN in the 2nd dose) and to open up the booster shot to teenagers aged 12 and over.

It should be noted that the following intervals must be respected for the booster dose:

  • Two-dose vaccine (Moderna, BioNTech/Pfizer) and "Mix & Match" (AstraZeneca 1st dose and RNA 2nd dose): 3 months after a full vaccination from 10 January 2022
  • Two-dose vaccine (both doses with AstraZeneca) 3 months after a full vaccination from 10 January 2022
  • One-dose vaccine (Johnson & Johnson): extra dose by RNA vaccine 1 month after the Johnson & Johnson injection

People who have tested positive for COVID-19 can receive the booster one month after their positive PCR test.

Please note that since 1 December, booster doses can only be administered by appointment in the 5 vaccination centres Victor Hugo (temporarily transferred to Luxexpo since 3 January), Esch-Belval, Ettelbruck, in Findel (LAR) and in Luxembourg-Kirchberg (Luxexpo).

The people concerned will receive an invitation for vaccination from the Luxembourg Government by post, with detailed instructions on how to book an appointment at one of the 5 vaccination centres or with their physician.

It should also be noted that people who live in Luxembourg and who received their initial vaccination abroad will be able to get their booster vaccination without an appointment at one of the vaccination centres.

The list of vaccination centres and physicians participating in the vaccination campaign is available at covid19.public.lu.

Personalised assistance is also offered through a hotline specifically set up for this purpose.
