The number of people testing positive for COVID-19 is up sharply (265%) with 3,387 cases for the week of 19 to 25 October, compared to 1,280 cases for the previous week. The number of contacts also reached a very high level with 9,980 contacts compared to the 7,878 contacts previously identified (+27%).
The number of PCR tests carried out amounts to 60,669 compared to 47,939 the previous week.
As of 25 October, the number of active infections was 4,682 (compared to 2,112 on 18 October), while the number of people healed increased from 8,765 to 9,570. 12 new deaths with a link to COVID-19 were registered.
The increase in the number of newly positive people has been accompanied by an increase in the number of patients in hospitals. This increase was concentrated on normal care, which can be explained by the age structure of the positive cases.
During the week of 19 to 25 October the average age of those diagnosed as COVID-19 positive increased to 40.3 years.
The effective reproduction rate (R) rose from 1.17 to 1.52 while the positivity rate on the tests carried out was 5.59%, against 2.67% the previous week (average of the week).
The 7-day incidence rate is 541 per 100,000 residents, respectively 745 cases per 100,000 inhabitants over 14 days.
The evolution of the incidence rate over the last 9 weeks shows a recent increase in all age groups. The 15-29 age group still stands out as the most affected, followed by the 30-59 age group, which once again saw the biggest increase last week. The incidence among young people of 0-14 remains about half that of adults. There has also been a sharp increase in the number of people aged 75+ years.
Quarantine and isolation
For the week of 19 to 25 October, 3,948 people were in quarantine (+23% compared to the previous week) and 3,239 in isolation (+93% compared to the previous week).

Contamination
Among the attributable causes of contamination, the family environment remains the most frequent source, with 27.6%. The proportion of cases in the aid and care sector is increasing.
Waste water monitoring in Luxembourg as part of SARS-CoV-2
The latest CORONASTEP report drawn up by the LIST (Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology) shows that the national level of SARS-CoV-2 contamination has almost quadrupled in the country's wastewater treatment plants during the week of 19 to 25 October, compared to the peak at the end of March. The increase in daily flows of SARS-CoV-2 was observed at all the monitored wastewater treatment plants, with a lower intensity in Wiltz.
